The Washington library community is rallying with a new, crucial action plan in order to support the State Library budget. Library supporters from throughout the state will attend a legislative day on Monday, February 1st, and we need you to attend! This legislative day is sponsored by the Friends of the Washington State Library, with major support from the Washington Library Association (WLA). It will convene at the Olympia Timberland Library at 10 a.m. with presentations by Steve Duncan, WLA's Legislative Liaison; Jan Walsh, State Librarians; and Time Mallory, WLA President.

Why is this happening? The state legislature began its 60-day supplemental budget session on January 11. And we now know that the State Library budget is under severe threat. Unless $987,000 is restored this state will lose LSTA funding… which means all libraries will lose. Even if LSTA funds are restored, the State Library will still have to cut services that libraries use. For background information, go to www.wslfriends.org.

WLA and other library organizations are committed to supporting the State Library budget. WLA members and the library community as a whole need to spend this day concentrating solely on supporting the State Library budget!

Comprehensive information along with the registration form can be found below. Please make an appointment to talk with your legislators on Monday, February 1st after 11 a.m. and start making your plans to come to Olympia.

Can't attend? Send letters to your legislators. Find your legislator at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder.
